Lava Lamp Wallpaper draws an animated lava lamp behind your desktop icons and as a screensaver. It does not collect, store, share or sell any personal information. It only connects to the internet to check a Pro license key, as described under "Pro and license keys".
What the app reads on your PC
- Your desktop wallpaper, when you turn on "Show the desktop wallpaper", so it can draw the wallpaper behind the lamp.
- The screen, only when you turn on "Mirror the windows" (window reflections), so the wax can mirror the windows around it. The screen image is copied into your graphics card's memory to draw each frame and is released when the lamp pauses. It is never saved to disk, never sent anywhere and never seen by anyone.
- The sound your PC plays, only when you turn on "React to music". The app measures its loudness, bass and beats as it plays, in memory, so the wax can move with it. The sound is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere, and the microphone is never used.
- The mouse cursor's position, to light the wax where the cursor is.
- Mouse and keyboard activity, only to know when the PC has been idle long enough to start the screensaver and when to end it. Which keys you press is never read or stored.
- Power and session state (battery, Energy Saver, screen locked or off), so the lamp can pause and save power.
What the app stores
Your settings, your Pro license key if you enter one, and a diagnostic log stay in the app's own folder on your PC. Looks you save go to the Lava Lamp folder in your Documents; if you back up Documents with OneDrive, OneDrive syncs them like your other documents. Besides the license check below, the app never uploads anything.
The log describes what the app found when it started (for example the graphics card's name and the monitors' sizes) and is only read if you open it yourself. Uninstalling the app removes its folder.
Pro and license keys
Pro is sold on this website by Polar, our merchant of record. Polar handles the payment and the details you give it (such as your name, email address and payment details) under Polar's privacy policy, and emails you a license key.
When you enter the key, the app sends it to Polar to activate Pro on your PC, together with your PC's name, so you can tell your PCs apart in Polar's customer portal, and an anonymous ID for the PC, a one-way hash that can't be traced back to it. After that, the app sends the key, the activation and the anonymous ID to Polar when it starts and once a day, to check that the key is still valid. When you remove Pro from a PC, the app asks Polar to free that activation. Nothing else is sent.
